Celebrate the National Park Service’s 99th Birthday with Free Entry to All National Parks on Tuesday August 25th.
President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act on August 25, 1916.This act created the National Park Service.The National Park Service was a federal bureau within the Department of the Interior that would be responsible for protecting the 35 national parks and monuments currently established and those yet to be established.To date there are now 408 national parks!
This year marks the 99th anniversary of the Organic Act and birthday of the National Park Service.To celebrate the occasion, fees will be waived on August 25th at all national parks.
To celebrate the upcoming centennial of the National Park Service, in 2016, the National Park Foundation launched their Find Your Park campaign to encourage everyone to get up, get out there and #FindYourPark - no matter your interest.
There are many ways to celebrate the 99th birthday of the National Park Service.If you can only think of a few, the National Park Service has created a list of 99 ways to celebrate the occasion.
